RaceAbout 2000 is a sports car project organized by the Laboratory of Automotive Engineering in cooperation wîth the Úniversity of Art and Design Helsinki. The sports car was designed and built by students using state-of-the-art 3D-design software tools which made it possible to implement the project in a short period of time using reasonable funds. The Raceabout 2000 sports car project started in February 1998 and took 24 months to complete. The Laboratory of Automotive Engineering at the Helsinki Polytechnic is one of the leading automotive R&D units in Finland. It excels in automotive and engine technology and offers modern laboratory facilities wîth new research equipment for highly motivated students in Automotive Engineering. The car had its premiere at Geneva in Feb 2000. The power comes via a Saab DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder engine. The main partner in the project is finnish niche car manufacturer Valmet Automotive.
